Working with a Contractor

If you do hire a contractor, here’s some of our favorite advice to ensure you find an excellent fit:

  1. Approach contractors like any other relationship. There’s a give and take, and building a personal rapport is critical to long-term success. Renovations can be a stressful process, and no renovation project is the same, so your flexibility is key.

  2. Pick someone who can communicate. Watching and adapting as your house undergoes renovations is hectic, and you may have questions or concerns pop up as you see your home broken down and rebuilt. Working with a contractor who embodies professional communication can ease your concerns.

  3. Expect surprises. The chance to create something customized and beautiful doesn’t come without risks, and there will likely be moments where you wonder what you got yourself into. Lean on your contractors and renovators for support. They’ve been down this road before and can guide you through the most difficult moments.
